Big Break, Moscow International Festival of Theatre For Children

The first International Festival of Theatre for Children “Big Break” will be held in Moscow from November 3 to November 11, 2007. The Festival, which is planned as an annual event, is organized by PRAKTIKA Theatre and is supported by the Government of Moscow.

The aim of the festival is to introduce the Moscow audience to the best examples of Russian and international theatre for children and to create a debating forum for a large contingent of theatre professionals from Russia and abroad.

The Festival programme will include productions from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, etc. The international section will feature productions from Canada, Mexico, Sweden, the U.S., Denmark and a special programme of British theatre for children presented in collaboration with the British Council and Vedogon Theatre.

An important element of the Festival will be the Special programme of discussions, workshops, master-classes with the key figures of theatre for young audiences, special events. Russian and foreign experts will meet in a panel discussion focused on the burning issues of theatre for children. A seminar for young directors planning to work in children’s theatre will be conducted by leading professionals in this field.

The festival is also planning a programme of socially oriented activities reaching out to those who do not have adequate access to cultural life - orphans, disabled or ill children, etc. Soccorso Clown Theatre from Italy will tour Moscow children’s hospitals with its unique rehabilitation programme. The festival will prepare a Class Act program where playwrights will work with children from Moscow orphanages in order to create and stage plays.

The festival will be concluded with a GALA – a large-scale event for children and their parents at the New Opera Theatre, specially produced for the festival and featuring film and theatre stars who will talk about their childhood theatre experiences.

The Festival Programme will be announced at the beginning of September.
