Annual Marietta Piccolomini Cyber Opera Competition

L'Assesore alla Cultura and L'Operatore Culturale di Citta' della Pieve and The International Opera Theater are proud to announce the Annual Marietta Piccolomini Cyber Opera Competition. The objective of this project is to honor the principles of singing brought to the public through the career of Marietta Piccolomini, the soprano Verdi chose to premiere La Traviata in England and the US and to offer exposure for gifted singers who exemplify these principles.

Singers from around the world are asked to send an electronic version of one Italian operatic aria and one song or aria in their native language to: info@internationaloperatheater.org.

Singers will receive notification of the judges decision no later than March 1, 2008. Photos and mp3s of the semi-finalists will appear on the International Opera Theater web site soon after this date.

Audio performances of the finalists will be posted on the International Opera Theater website no later than April 6, 2008.

Judges for the competition will be led by Karen Saillant, Artistic Director of International Opera Theater and Harold Parker, bass-baritone and noted American teacher of singing.

The recordings of semi-finalists will be posted on the International Opera Theater website. Internet subscribers will be able to add their votes to those of the judges in choosing the winner.

First Prize: $500
Second Prize: $300
Third Prize: $200

Last years winner: Kim Ah Young, Soprano (South Korea).
