Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (RATI-GITIS) published two new books in 2008 - Theatre: A Book about New Theatre and Discussing Theatre. Both books reproduce early 20th century articles by famous directors, playwrights, theatre designers and theatre critics of that time – Vsevolod Meyerhold, Alexandre Benois, Andrei Bely, Yuly Eichenwald.
Over 100 years ago these articles were written as a result of heated discussions about conceptualization of the then new theatre organization and relationships between actors and stage directors within that new system. Nowadays, after a hundred years the problems that the new system faced then seem current to the modern theatre.
Both books as well as all other RATI–GITIS publications on theatre theory and practice can be found on the Academy’s Web site.
