CASTA DIVA Award was initiated by the Russian theatre critics in 1997 to highlight the most acclaimed productions and artists of the previous season. In June 2009 the Casta Diva jury named “Macbeth” by G. Verdi, coproduced by Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and Opera National de Paris, the best production of 2008. The director of “Macbeth” is Dmitry Chernyakov, the conductor is Teodor Kurentzis.
Apart from best production CASTA DIVA is awarded in two more nominations: best actor/actress and lifetime achievement, which were respectively received by Kristina Kapustinskaya (Gipsy Grusha in “The Enchanted Wanderer” by Rodion Shchedrin and storyteller in “Karamazov Brothers” by Alexander Smelkov, Mariinsky Theatre) and Sergey Leiferkus (Chichikov in “The Dead Souls” by Rodion Shchedrin in Mariinky Theatre).
