In Septemper 2009 Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre started its 65th season.
Company’s chief conductor Teodor Currentzis says that the company plans to give concert-like performances of operas of Norma by Bellini, Otello by Verdi, The Passenger by Weinberg and operetta The Bat by Strauss.
In winter 2010 the theatre will present a new opera for children – “Kai and Gerda’s Story”. The company is now working on the reconstruction of Spartacus ballet.
Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre has planned a tight touring schedule for this season. “To promote theatre we must take an active part in the world’s cultural life”, Currentzis emphasized.
In November and December the company will go on tour to Seoul, where Carmen and The Nutcracker will be shown. Other touring contacts have been signed with presenters in Amsterdam, Athens, Baden-Baden and Vienna.
Professional interest in the theatre company has recently increased thanks to its participation in different international projects. In 2008 European label Alpha released the first Currentzis’ disk – opera Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell. Moreover, in the same 2008 Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre together with Opera National de Paris produced Macbeth (directed by Dmitry Chernyakov) – performances of this opera in Paris were vey successful. In 2009 Macbeth has been nominated for Golden Mask national theatre award.
In May 2010 Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre is to carry out the third edition of its Siberian Ballet Festival.
